As a child, I was mastering the art of framing advisors. My father, the former Managing Partner of Louisiana and Mississippi, instilled in me the essence of personal branding from the get-go. It wasn't just about picking out his ties; it was framing himself and crafting his image, so he was framed in the way he wanted to be as he went to prospecting and client meetings, regional meetings, and annual meetings. Personal branding is more crucial than ever in today's digital era, where first impressions are often made with a click. It's about framing yourself to your ideal market and shaping perceptions before you even utter a word. Now, growing up in the Northwestern Mutual culture and having hands-on experience in the corporate and field offices, I'm passionate about empowering advisors and leaders to sculpt their narratives, ensuring they are framed in the light they desire. Because in a world where every search, click and view shapes perceptions, your brand precedes you. 

From tie selections to mastering branding: How are you framing yourself?

Katy was born into the Northwestern Mutual family, and her journey led her to intern in Milwaukee under the guidance of Conrad York, former Chief Marketing Officer for Northwestern Mutual. This experience provided her with invaluable insights into campaign strategies and Home Office marketing tools, coinciding with the launch of the "Live Life Differently" campaign.

Katy's passion for marketing fueled her to meticulously fact-find and define her Network Office's marketing needs, successfully creating and launching RADMarketing. This platform is designed to streamline and execute marketing initiatives on behalf of advisors. Her expertise primarily encompasses an array of branding initiatives, customized social media content, and enhancement of client experiences. Currently, she oversees 80+ social media accounts for advisors and districts nationwide and works with some of the top advisors in the country.

More than just an acronym, RAD is a heartfelt tribute to Katy's firstborn, Reid Andrew Dugal, who initially sparked Katy's "why." Now married to Shelby and a mother of four - Reid, Adalyn Rose, Rowan, and Rhyatt - RAD is not just a brand; it's a legacy.

The numbers don't lie

Fortunately, I had the privilege of growing up with a grandfather who held the position of Managing Partner, and a father who progressed from being an advisor to becoming a Managing Director and eventually a Managing Partner himself. Our family discussions primarily revolved around the topics of finances and freedom. I enjoyed listening to my father and assisting him in dressing to impress while also brainstorming creative solutions to the obstacles faced by advisors.

Way Back Where It All Started...

While at college, I worked at a district office, assisting the Managing Director and helping with basic administrative tasks. I trained on answering phones, SET team, and CRC clients. I was blessed to intern in Milwaukee directly under the guidance of Conrad York, former Chief Marketing Officer for Northwestern Mutual. This experience provided invaluable insights into campaign strategies and Home Office marketing tools, coinciding with the launch of the “Live Life Differently” campaign. 

Internship with Impact

The NM Marketing Internship fueled my passion for marketing, and I came back to our network office fired up. The firm did not have someone owning their marketing & communications initiative. I took what I learned and started advising, making documents"pretty," and helping frame our network as needed. I am most proud of the partnership I built with the New Orleans Pelicans, being the "Financial Planning Partner" and overseeing and crafting every aspect. Additionally, I assisted in creating and launching an NM sales lab on a local campus. While doing so, I progressed from Coordinator to Director to CMO. 

C-Suite Solutions

My frustration as CMO was meeting with advisors about marketing with little to no execution on their part. Marketing is so crucial, but it's not a priority. One day, an advisor joked about paying me to "get it off his plate," from there, I created RAD. RADMarketing is designed to streamline and execute marketing initiatives on behalf of advisors. It blossomed overnight, and I currently oversee 80+ social media accounts for advisors and districts nationwide and work with some of the top advisors in the country.

Growing up within the Northwestern Mutual system, I know the ins and outs of the financial industry, including the pitfalls and what works and doesn't work. I am personable, hard-working, creative, and resourceful. My primary mission is client satisfaction and results. I welcome constructive feedback and am committed to the highest marketing and brand excellence standards. Most importantly, marketing is my passion & I have FUN doing it!
